Yes you read that title correctly, I posted on social media 7x a day for 2 months straight. 3x on Tik Tok, 2x on Instagram and once on Facebook. Also 3x a week on Youtube Shorts. Why you might be asking? Because! And that’s my final answer.
We live in an age where social media is kinda sorta everything for us. As musicians, companies, artists, honestly anyone today, social media plays an important role in our economy, social lives and how we grow as individuals. I’ll speak for myself and say as an artist I have to be online. As much as it can really effect my mental health, it’s a huge tool in helping me grow as an artist and reach audiences I might not be able to reach solely through connections and networking. It’s also insane the growth you can have and how quickly it can happen. I know this because I’ve experienced it. You might have seen on your FYP content creators and content marketers talking about posting daily content, how many times you should post, what you should post, etc etc. Like me, you probably are confused and overwhelmed by it all. I was lucky enough to work with someone and create a schedule based around me and my brand. So if you were thinking “Tommi, how did you even start this?”, that’s how.
We created a calendar of what to post and when. We also fine-tuned my branding and the messages I was putting out online in my content that could help expand my brand and reach broader audiences. Once everything was finalized, I was off to the races and a race it was. Traveling, balancing work, constantly coming up with new ideas and sticking to the schedule was TOUGH. Harder than you may think if you’re reading this. But overall I’m really happy I stuck with it and I learned a lot through the experience. You are probably wondering the golden question, did it work?
The honest answer….yes, but if you read the title I said “I’ll tell you why it’s not worth it…” and I meant that! But let me explAin. Executing this schedule taught me four key things. One, get over your fear of posting. No one is judging you because no one cares. That’s a good thing!! It means you shouldn’t feel afraid to post. Once you get over that hump, you already are leaps and bounds ahead. Second thing, trust your gut. I realized posting this much, some ideas felt great and some didn’t. But anytime something felt really good, it did well. I think as artists we all have this inside of us, that intuitive pull. Follow that. Third, I don’t know sh*t. A lot of the things I had doubts on did well and it shocked me every time. And that’s about 100 times I was shocked. This furthers my previous point, just POST! Last thing I learned was that things take time. I had multiple videos go viral from months and even a year ago while I was doing this. I’m so grateful they did, but I remember posting some of the content at the time being so discouraged because it wasn’t doing well. If I knew then that it would eventually go viral, I would’ve saved all that time feeling sorry for myself. So take it from me, you never know and the only way you won’t know is if you don’t post.
But back to the title, why it’s not worth it. Okay, I think it is worth it, BUT only worth it if you are ready to fail and learn A LOT. If you want to post going off a content schedule and are expecting every video to go mega viral, you’re delusional and not the good kind of delusion. Go into it eager and excited, but with the understanding that some things are going to do amazing and some will not. All of it is just more information and more investment in yourself. Posting whether it’s daily or often is an investment in your endeavors and you. Post because you are excited, post because you are inspired, post because you want to, post because every time you do you’re showing up for yourself.
I hope you read this and took something from it. And if you have been thinking about challenging yourself with posting more content, this is your sign to GO FOR IT! Good luck and I can’t wait to see what you’ve created! If you want, comment with a link to a piece of recent content you’re proud of. Let’s lift each other up.
Happy posting!!!!!!
